We would not buy the same short reindeer ride again. It was calm and pretty, but it ended just as it felt as though it had begun. For €135, our family wanted more time with the reindeer and more of an experience than the roughly ten minutes we spent in the sleighs.

We took the ride at Santa Claus Village in late November 2025. This review covers that short ride, rather than a longer forest safari or a farm visit.

The wait and the ride

We waited about five minutes before getting into two sleighs: two adults and a five-year-old travelled between them. The family total was €135.

The pace was slow. Our photographs show the view ahead of the sleigh, the harness and the wooded route. There was time to look around, but not enough for the ride to become the substantial reindeer outing we had pictured. About ten minutes later, it was finished.

That is the central point to check before buying: how much time will you actually spend travelling behind the reindeer? A description of the route or the total visit does not necessarily answer that question.

Why it felt poor value to us

The ride was not unpleasant. Our disappointment was the relationship between the price, duration and what we wanted from it. It felt closer to an expensive photo opportunity than a chance to learn about reindeer or spend meaningful time in the forest.

We had let the words “reindeer ride” suggest a bigger outing. A farm visit and a conversation with a herder were never part of the short product we bought. If those matter to you, choose an experience that specifically includes them.

Would a child enjoy it?

A brief, slow ride may be enough for a young child, especially during an already busy Village day. Our view is about the purchase as a family: we would put the €135 towards a more substantial animal experience next time.

For a closer animal encounter within the Village, we preferred Santa's Pets, which we would revisit. It is a different activity, so the choice depends on whether you want to meet animals or ride behind one.

What to ask before paying

Ask for the actual ride duration and distance, the total for your party, and whether any farm visit or herder conversation is included. For an outing outside the Village, also compare transfers, clothing and places to warm up. The official reindeer listings show the range of formats, while our comparison explains the differences.

We would now choose a longer forest or farm experience, having checked what we were buying. A short loop can still be the right choice when a short loop is all you want. It was not good value for what our family hoped to get from it.
